How old do you have to be to volunteer?

Volunteer opportunities start as early as 5 years old! 

  • Volunteers 5- 11 years of age may participate in our Pawsitive Readers Program, with a parent or chaperone present for their service..
  • Volunteers 12- 15 years of age may particiapte in all of our volunteer opportunities with a parent or chaperone present for their service.
  • Volunteers 16+ years of age may participate in all of our volunteer opportunities.
Does LCHS have volunteer opportunities for groups?

Our group opportunities are generally project-based, and dependent on the size of your group. If you have a group that is interested in volunteering at our facility for a project, please contact our Community Engagement Coordinator.

Is there a dress code for volunteers?

We ask that our volunteers wear our LCHS volunteer t-shirt, pants or longer shorts, and close-toed shoes for your own protection. Do not wear shorts, flip flops, tank tops, or bare mid-riff shirts.

Does LCHS have a summer volunteer program for students?

We have summer program geared toward middle and high school students at least 12 years of age, attempting to complete volunteer hours for Bright Futures Scholarships/ school credit. If you are interested in this program, please fill out a Volunteer Application

Do I have to volunteer a certain number of hours?

We encourage our volunteers to make a commitment of 2-3 hours per week for four months. This ensures that we have the best shift coverage possible for our Kitty Care, Reception and events shifts.

When can I volunteer?

LCHS is open to its volunteers from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday through Saturday, and on select hours on Sundays for Kitty Care volunteers. .

Can I volunteer for LCHS at any other location besides 413 Timberlane Road?

Yes, LCHS has many events for you to participate in, and through our weekly newsletter you will be kept up to date with those opportunities.

Do you have a program for court-ordered community service hours?

If you need court-ordered community service hours you will need to speak directly to our Community Engagement Coordinator. We accept court-ordered volunteering on a very limited basis for project-based opportunities.
