Abandoned Puppies - Your Help Needed!

This past Wednesday, we received a desperate call for help. Seven puppies, only one week old, were tied up in a plastic grocery bag and tossed in a ditch by the side of the road – could we help? Thanks to our generous members we were able to say “YES”.

A good Samaritan rescued these sweet puppies and with Gina Pitisci's help, brought them to us at the Leon County Humane Society (LCHS). Dr. Michelle Richardson of Lakewood Animal Hospital, graciously examined the puppies and said “with fostering and appropriate feeding and caring, they should be fine, thankfully.” We believe these cuties are hound mixes, but due to their very young age, it is impossible to determine their breed just yet.

The puppies have been placed safely in loving LCHS foster homes, where they will be cared for as they recover from this horrific and cruel act. Each puppy will cost us about $350 each to prepare them for adoption, given the round-the-clock care, puppy formula, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries and vet treatments over the next few months.

Can you help us cover some of these unexpected costs for Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid and Rudolph and so many others just like them?

Every donation you make means help for the homeless, neglected and abused animals in our community. Thank you for making a difference in the life of an animal today. Without your generosity we would not be able to save these little lives.

Interested in Adopting?

If you are interested in possibly adopting, you may fill out an adoption questionnaire (Just put Reindeer Puppies in the Foster Pet Name!). We are very happy to have potential adopters interested in these puppies, but it will be at least 2-3 months before they are ready for adoption.

At that point, we will begin contacting those people who have indicated interest by filling out an adoption questionnaire. For more information regarding our adoption process and policies, please visit our Matchmaking page.

abandoned puppies

My "girls," Sissy and Sassy, were abandoned at 4 weeks and taken to the Animal Shelter by Animal Control. I fostered them and fell in love, and seven years later they are still the most wonderful, loving, obedient, beautiful dogs anyone could want (chow-chow/retriever mix, red and champagne blonde). I hope that the Christmas puppies (mine were Thanksgiving babies)will all survive to become pets like mine. I am mailing a donation this morning for their care.

Monique - interested in seeing her for adoption purposes

I have filled out the matchmaking questionaire and didn't mention Monique. It appears she has all the qualities I am looking for in a small dog. Thank you.
